Fashion Week A-Z

A Fashion week opens and closes with André and Anna, Vogue’s power team. The duo is known for their anticipated entrances, quick exits, and for always having the best seats in the house.

B Designer Marc Bouwer showed a stunning collection of faux fur coats that look like the real thing—without the emotional baggage.

C Celebrity sightings are one of the reasons many trek through numerous shows each fashion week. Rumor has it Baby Phat held up for an hour to wait for Britney Spears (who was a no-show)

D The Daily is Fashion Week’s official glossy, it provides perfect mindless indulgence when waiting for a show to start.

E Patrik Ervell, former contributing fashion editor at V is revolutionizing menswear.

F The Flapper look is back. BCBG, Naeem Khan, and Matthew Williamson went for a 20’s silhouette with drop waists and boxy minidresses your great-grandmother would have worn had she been incredibly stylish. Fringe takes it a step too far.

G Goody bags, otherwise known as “swag bags,” are usually placed in the first few rows of every seat, and could contain anything from felt-lined stationery by Baby Phat to TK GOOD Gift bag item.

H Holly Golightly DVF channeled this fashion icon on the runway with short black frocks, long skinny legs and red lips.

I Irina Lazareanu, the dark-haired Romanian-come-Canadian model and Babyshambles drummer can be seen strutting down countless Bryant Park runways.

J Jessica Stam, Canadian supermodel, has gotten the official runway stamp of approval. Favored by photographer Steven Meisel, 20-year-old Stam has modeled for Marc Jacobs, Anna Sui, Vera Wang, Valentino, Miu Miu, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, BCBG, Armani, and Victoria’s Secret.

K PR Superhero and Peoples Revolution chief Kelley Cutrone books all the biggest shows, her clipboard and daughter Ava in tow.

L Look out for Lynn Yaeger, fire-maned socialite and Village Voice columnist, sitting front-row with her eclectic style and ever-critical eye.

M Moet, a Fashion Week sponsor, provides special cardholders with a lounge to relax in at the tents, as well as champagne for those who drink, and midday sandwiches and snacks for those who nibble.

N Don’t think about getting any reading done at The New York Public. For Fashion Week, the endless, elegant hallway is transformed into Jill Stuart’s.

O Only one model can walk down the Baby Phat runway pumping her fist. It’s Dominican powerhouse Omahyra Mota.

P Patrick McMullan, famed New York City society photographer, can be found front row, backstage, or roaming the chic afterparties at Bungalow 8. Do you have YOUR pose ready?

Q Writer Quentin Crisp once described fashion, “What you adopt when you don’t know who you are.” We don’t knowl if that’s a good or bad thing.

R Rodarte, the mastermind of sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy, makes clothes dripping in femininity and rich in romance. Think layers and layers of chiffon, hand-stitched flowers, and fluttering dresses.

S If you can talk your way past the front doors of the tents without an invite, try joining the standing room only line. An eager public lines up in mass rows behind the seating area to get a glimpse of their favorite designer’s collection.

T Target, which recently teamed up for a highly-anticipated collaboration with Proenza Schouler, is the perfect place to head if you don’t want to break the bank looking chic for fashion week.

U Underwear is so last year, as models backstage ditch the thong and go bare to avoid unseemly lines.

V Vera Wang shows today, Thursday, in the tents. Catch all the juicy tidbits of the show on eye.columbiaspectator.com after the show.

W Women’s Wear Daily is handed out in the tents alongside The Daily. WWD tracks all industry news, from international trade laws to silhouette trends.

X The X-Factor is that je ne sais quoi of the whole fashion week experience. Will it be an amazing collection from a hot designer like Doo.Ri Chung, an amazing
celebrity sighting, or a date with a model (or even a designer)? You never know.

Y Yigal Azrouel, Israeli-born women’s designer, perhaps is most famous for the gorgeous bone-white winter coat that Anne Hathaway wore in Devil Wears Prada. This season, Azrouel comes into his own with a classically tailored, serious collection of chocolate browns, blacks, and muted greys.

Z Zac Posen, beloved by the celebrity set for his party-boy ways and photo-worthy frocks, continues to reign over the American designer scene.
