PrintMarch 1 came and went for a vast majority of the Columbia population. For the Speccies among us, it was the beginning of an era. For Bwog, it was a Bwogline. But what was the real story behind the launch?
After one too many Spectails this weekend, the editors over at Spectator concocted a crazy scheme—they would pool their newsy resources and begin a blog (“like Bwog, only better!”). This blog would offer a spec-trum of Spec content, as well as spec-ially written stories, spec-ifically for the blog. The founders worked around the clock to get their blog up and running by Monday morning, amid spec-ulation fostered by mysterious Gchat statuses and profile pictures.
Meanwhile, over at Bwog, editors heard of this momentous event and began to wonder—what could possibly have possessed these Speccies to attempt to create a blog? Perhaps the Spec staff felt they did not have enough unread publications? Or, did they simply find that spending 18 hours a day in the Spec office left them with too much free time on their enterprising hands? Speccies needed some way to occupy themselves for the other six!
Readers chose camps; the originality of “Plate to Plate” was questioned; comments were deleted. And so, the snark wars ensued. Both should remember: an Eyepoke for an Eyepoke will leave the blogging world blind.
