What we're into

Not everything that Columbians read is on the syllabus—even if a vast majority of it is. Here’s what we’ve been picking up.

1. Yahoo News: I read it obsessively because it’s an aggregate and they usually have interesting articles that can’t easily be found elsewhere. Plus, it contains everything I need newswise: hometown, national, global, and stocks.
-Logan Hofstein, TV Editor

2. Lolita and The Decameron: Although I’ve been trying to get through Lolita, which may be the most beautifully disturbing (and disturbingly beautiful) book ever written, Lit Hum reading, like The Decameron, keeps getting in my way.
-Allison Malecha, Style Editor

3. The entire Quran: I never thought my Islam class would mean carrying the Quran around with me everywhere. Shout-out to Peter Awn!
-Ashton Cooper, Art Editor

4. The Eyeand you should, too!
-Devin Briski, Managing Editor, Features

5. Slice Harvester blog: The man-god who started my new favorite blog is trying every pizza place in New York City and masterfully tagging his posts by area. Thanks to him, I now know to skip Koronet and head to Giovanni’s on 110th and Columbus.
-Amanda Cormier, Deputy Editor, Features

6. A compilation of New Yorker essays about the city: I actually understand the New York references now!
-Sarah Ngu, Ideas Editor

7. Lady Chatterley’s Lover: The original romance novel. Sometimes it’s fun to spice up my reading—as great as the Aeneid and film criticism are, it’s good to read something not on my syllabi. Of course, I’m reading at the speed of about three pages a week because of classes—but it’s still worth it!
-Rachel Allen, Film Editor

8. The New Yorker: I’m trying to adhere to my New Year’s resolution of reading beyond the cartoons!
v-Claire Fu, Books Editor

9. The New York Times Magazine: Did you know that the 60-year-old wife of a member of Parliament was recently caught in an affair with a 19-year-old boy? Or that by some coincidence (or self-fulfilling prophecy), her name is Mrs. Robinson?
-Maggie Penman, Eyesites Editor

10. Annie’s White Cheddar Mac & Cheese Box: Now I know my favorite snack is full of protein, calcium, vitamin B1, and folic acid.
-Sarah Lipman, Visuals Editor
