PrintThe Thanksgiving leftovers your mom put in a Tupperware have finally gone bad (trust me, you don’t want to eat those yams) which means its time to start thinking about holiday shopping. Some of you may have already stocked up during Black Friday but I assume most postponed their shopping in order to avoid unnecessary death by trampling. While you could always just buy a bunch of iTunes gift cards, there are some more inventive options available to Columbia students:
John Jay Dishware.
It may take a couple swipes but pretty soon you will be able to compile dishware for the whole family. The bright colors and dishware stains will cause your relatives to squeal with excitement as they unwrap their new dishware sets. This way every home meal can feel like a John Jay meal! And if you live in the nearby area why not throw in a couple of apples, cupcakes, and an ambiguous fish dish.
A Butler Reserves Book for a large lecture class.
Take out a Butler Reserves book, preferably right before the final and instead of returning it, wrap it up and send it home to be put under the tree. Sure you’ll levy a large fine and the anger of your classmates but there’s nothing like a hardcover book that says “Dad, lets face it, I’m now officially smarter than you are” or “Mom, now that I’m an intellectual I realize you’re such a philistine”.
Light bulbs.
You can score these from Hartley for free so just stock up (15 to 45 is about right depending on the recipient). Your relatives may have perplexed expressions on their faces when they open a large box to find dozens of light bulbs but you can be sure they’ll be smiling when all 30 light bulbs in their house go out at once.
Columbia ID Card.
How does a month access to an Upper West Side gym, the finest NYC museums, and a wacky glass building with ramps sound? Awesome right, that’s probably what your relatives will think to when you loan them your Columbia ID card for month. Hell, you’re not going to be using it. They can even hang out in Carman lounge depending on the eyesite of the security guard which will definitely have them saying best Christmas gift ever!
