Who would ever want to wear a Tiffany’s box? If I were to ask any woman if she’d like to receive one of those coveted little turquoise boxes tied with a white satin bow, she’d become a bobblehead. But wear one? I don’t think so. And yet, the focus and inspiration of Chocheng’s Spring 2010 collection was those boxes; the bright blue of a few dresses stood out against a collection that otherwise had no color, only white and black.

The Chocheng show was, to say the least, extremely high drama. So many striking creations in black, white, and cream captured the attention before the shock of the blue hit the runway. With such a miniature color palette, Chocheng made inventive use of intricate detailing and cut. Every detail was minute and unique, such as the tiny popout scalloped trim that adorned necklines and wrists, dramatically low-cut backs, and super-swingy coats and vests with baubly buttons. I adored a certain getup in all-black that made exquisite use of a paneled pencil skirt paired with one of those tiny trapeze coats skimming the hip just so, but it was those blues that captured everyone’s attention even more than the appearance of runway star Coco Rocha, who closed the show in an extremely regal, heavy, and caped ivory gown. A modern wedding confection, perhaps?

So you want to get the look? That’s quite simple. Make use of color in the spring, but don’t overuse it- just a bright little pop here and there will do just fine. And while you’re at it, why not tie a little white bow in your hair? It’ll be not only a nod to that iconic packaging, but give you a decidedly sophisticated city air.
