Yigal Azrouël / menswear + womenswear

Decadently disheveled, Yigal Azrouël’s Spring 2010 collection shined through a moody color scheme of grays, whites and blues. While the dashing Israeli designer seems to have a reoccurring role in gossip blogs across the city, his clothing reveals he is more than just a tabloid It boy. Azrouël showed his edge and ability at pulling together a unique take on what people should wear next year and how.

Eschewing sharply streamlined tailoring that stomps across most other runways, Azrouël prefers a look geared towards cool comfort and ease, and his cloud-soft fabrics for tanks and tees are a perfect match. While sheer tops for men may take it a bit too far for the average Joe, everyone could learn a thing or two from Azrouël’s knack for layering, and draping. Slouchy sweaters with long, soft undershirts peaking out, nonchalantly rolled pantlegs and rumpled shorts almost betray the kind of work that went into them. At the same time, they show how easy steps like cuffing a pant to the ankle and layering differently sized pieces change a whole look. While Azrouël’s women's collection didn’t have the same design power as the men’s, he did show a little more bite. Slashed metallic or black fabrics and tight little dresses made his girls a tough and confident companion to the drowsy chic boys.
