Miguel Antoinne / menswear

PrintPrint

Thunder and lightning served as Miguel Antoinne’s muse for his Spring menswear collection, and the looks were serious, sharp, and downright tight in most places. Shirts and blazers squeezed around their models. Meanwhile, small details like a cinched back on a slim blazer, or lapel-less blazers gave everything a slightly feminine touch. Blue, white, and black patterning filled out the collection, looking almost like tie-dye in some places, or Tetris in others. Meanwhile, Antoinne kept it sharp with stiffly upturned collars, and neatly cut shorts. Interesting fabrics also kept the show fresh. Many shirts and pants rolled out in a shiny or waxy gray or navy, while others were blocked with swatches of colored or sheer materials. A pair of gray leather pants even made its way into the show. There was a sporty ring throughout the collection, though it seems the designer is still looking for his voice. His show for Fall 09 had a playful and sharply vintage angle, while for spring he’s created an almost futuristic world of form fitting, single button blazers and shimmering materials. While his tailoring remains sharp, this newest direction seems less so. However, his design skills continue to shine (literally) through and seem to promise there’ll be more good to come.
