PrintOn the rooftop of a Chelsea gallery, circling two looming water towers, models strutted down the runway robed in the breezy patterned silks of Rachel Comey’s spring 2010 womenswear collection.
Themed “Rain or Shine,” Comey’s most recent collection featured light daywear as well as multiple army-green coats for those more dreary New York days. The models marched to a live band, the lead singer wailing her own version of “Free Falling,” a perfect fit for Comey’s loose, relaxed fashions. Her clothes are made to float on the body, nothing structured or severe. To make these dreamy silhouettes pop, the designer added vintage prints – bright colors and even African and Oriental inspired patterns.
Things are not what they seem in Comey’s designs, front panels disguise jumpers as dresses, and there are skorts abound. As a complement to these unique looks, Comey’s signature shoes were a beautiful addition. The soft leathers and rounded toes gave the impression of one’s favorite worn-in footwear.
To bring a little spring Comey into your wardrobe, find a large vintage printed blouse to pair with your favorite shorts. And if you’ve ever felt the desire to wear your favorite leather bag fanny-pack style, now would be the time; Comey’s show featured unique hip bags in a trend that has been awaiting its comeback.
