PrintOnly a Greek could create dresses beautiful enough to adorn the gods of Olympus. Vassilios Kostetsos, Greek-born designer, showed his heavenly 2010 spring/summer Phidias collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week this Sunday. The collection, featuring both menswear and womenswear, is sparkly enough to be seen from outer space. The colors - whites, nudes, blacks, and silvers - showed off the fine craftsmanship of the outfits; from full, sweeping gowns to structured minidresses to pantsuits, all heavily adorned with sequins and jewels.
The men’s suits were well crafted and, though they were made almost entirely of a shiny silk, they looked upscale (think more of classy burnished copper trousers over a crass metallic bronze). For women, the dresses were expertly constructed; there were many one-shoulder floor length dresses, heavily boned corseted minis, and strong puff sleeves with almost every look. Most characteristically each type of look, at least once, featured wide silver studded belts that brought the collection together as a whole.
To add a little modern Grecian style to your wardrobe, add a wide metallic belt to any understated minidress or gown, and don’t fear sequins. For the guys, pair a muted scarf around the neck with some jeans that have a nice sheen to be Kostetsos stylish.
